References on Idaho Geology
The geological literature on Idaho is extensive. A few key book references are listed below. Individual papers are cited or listed in appropriate places throughout the book. All of these sources can be found in the University Libraries in Pocatello and Boise. U.S. Geological Survey publications may be obtained from Publication Sales Offices in Spokane and Salt Lake City. Idaho Geological Survey publications may be obtained from the main office in Moscow.

In general, a geological dictionary (for example, Dictionary of Geological Terms, edited by R.L. Bates and Julia A. Jackson, (3rd edition, 1984, Doubleday Anchor Press) will be useful for those of the general public who are adventuresome enough to track down and try to understand this scientific literature.

The best general book on Idaho geology is by Terry Maley, Exploring Idaho Geology (1987, Mineral Land Publications, P.O. Box 1186, Boise, Idaho, 83701, 232 p.). An early geological summary of Idaho is by Edward F. Rodenbaugh (Sketches of Idaho Geology 1953, Caldwell, Idaho, Caxton Printers, Ltd. 267 p.). Ralph W. Maughan, Northside farmer from Rupert, has written an entertaining and wise commentary on Anatomy of the Snake River Plain: An Amateur's View (1992, Pocatello, Idaho, The Idaho State University Press, 69 p.).
