(above left) Utah & Northern Railway narrow-gauge engine crossing the Snake River at Eagle Rock (Idaho Falls), about 1885. Photo is taken looking northeast from the west side of the river. In the background are the roundhouse which blew over in a windstorm in June 1886, and the shops that were moved to Pocatello in 1886-87. The bridge in the background is the original bridge at Eagle Rock built by Matthew Taylor. It was one block south of the present location of the Broadway St. bridge. In 1911 a retaining wall was built in the area of the two bridges when the Idaho Falls power plant was constructed downstream. Until that time there were really no falls in Idaho Falls.
